Captain America

Chris Evans was a terrible choice. He just doesn't have that stalwart, chin-of-granite charisma that Steve Rogers has to have. Hawkeye - he'd be brilliant. But Cap? No way. I'm really disappointed.

This guy would have been perfect if they were casting him young. Or, if this is grizzled veteran Cap of the late Avengers, then it ought to be this guy, who would be a believable leader of men, and as we saw in Black Dahlia, is pretty ripped for the physical aspects of the role.

Is it too late? Marvel? Pretty please?

Well, he's got the look...but um, he's not American...

Neither is Alexander Skarsgaard :p

Dang, you know, I really thought he was American. Yep, okay, he can't be Cap. Thor it is.

He's Scottish, and he's gay. I have nothing against either flavor, but both are distinctly non-captain-america-ish.

Perhaps I'm being even more xenophobic than Cap himself would be...but ...Cap oughta be natural born American. Preferably a New Yorker, in fact.

Alexander Skarsgard should've been Thor. Ironically, I think Chris Hemsworth, who they picked to play Thor, would have made a good young Cap.

He'd have made a good Thor, too, definitely. A better choice than either of them. The problem with those two characters is that they're both incredibly fit, but Thor superhumanly so...the way he's drawn would be almost impossible to cast.

I think people will understand that people with that muscle-mass ratio just aren't highly available as skilled actors, and will accept someone more reasonable.

The only problem with Alexander Skarsgard as Thor is that, while fit, he's tall and thin, not really bulky, whereas Thor is the tall muscular Norse archetype.

Still, if they can make Michael Keaton and George Clooney passable as Batman, they can make someone work for Thor.

George Clooney passable as Batman? That's a leap, right there. Practically fighting words!

Did you see Push? I didn't, but I was looking at the trailer and.... Maybe it won't be so tragic?

And, for the record, I don't think Skarsgard or Eckhart would be perfect, either.

You have to factor in acting chops.

For example, looks alone post-serum?

John Cena: http://stuntgranny.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/john_cena-11885.jpg

But since he's a) a WWE wrestler and b) not that great of an actor you run into problems.

Paul Walker: http://images.paraorkut.com/img/wallpapers/1024x768/p/paul_walker_photoshoot-6255.jpg

Similar problems with the acting. He's done Fast and the Furious and...a bunch of other movies that didn't do well.

If we're looking at acting and thinking "they can just build the body like they did for Spider-Man" then my main choice is Jensen Ackles of Supernatural fame: http://www.buddytv.com/articles/hot-list-jensen-ackles-1.jpg

He's got the acting chops and even the face, but he'd need to bulk up a bit more.

Those guys all look like they'd be better than Chris Evans though.
