Completely Anecdotal

I can tell the economy is bounding back. In the last week, I've gotten about a dozen random attempts by recruiters to hire me, mostly by email. I have not listed my resume in years, so they're obviously just going through old databases. They wouldn't do this if positions were easy to fill.

It's like a tiny taste of the go-go 90's.

let's hope
that what you're seeing personally is the beginning of the real recovery from this recession, that part where people can get real jobs that will last longer than a few weeks/months. California is in dire need.

Happy to hear you've found a new home not far from the beach, and with parking! That's a blessing in Venice! DId George ever tell you the story about our friend who lived in Venice back when George was working on B&B? If not, ask him about it the next time we see you, it's a good one.

You ever think about coming back to Santa Fe for a nice relaxing winter weekend? Come on, you know you'd like to enjoy our snow-capped peaks and fine New Mexican cuisine during the winter season. We still got that guest room with the comfy bed and loaner cats waiting for you. You still haven't met the Red Cuteness, or seen the Tower of Books, that's worth a trip, surely.

Re: let's hope
George told me the Tale of the Too Short Parking last time we stopped by in Santa Fe, and I laugh about it every time I wander around looking for a spot. Which is frequently!

We were just talking about going back to Santa Fe sometime, some time that didn't involve a total train wreck of a wedding. It'd be super cool to see the Tower of Books - Herself has some friends in the area, too. Plus, 1000 Waves is amazing, if you've never been. Worth the trip right there!

Our new place is really swanky, and we even have a full-on guest bedroom, should you ever find yourself in need of a seaside retreat in LA!

Re: let's hope
I'm jealous. I would LOVE to see a Tower of Books. Besides my own :)

It does seem to be slowly coming back. Hopefully by the spring when I'm looking for a job it'll be even better.

I'm hoping to get out of IT, not make myself more marketable in it!

Nothing makes you less marketable in IT than becoming highly biased and flatly refusing to support any Microsoft products, regardless of how many digits are in the salary of said Microsoft product user. "I don't give a shit if you're Larry Ellison, you hired me to be a UNIX admin and I'm not going to fix your f*ing laptop just because you're a moron who won't pay for his porn like everyone else!" may or may not have been the last words I spoke at one of my previous admin jobs.

I like Microsoft and Microsoft products. I even own Microsoft stock and I'm hoping that Windows 7 is a HUGE hit.

However, your one big mistake there was assuming everyone else pays for their porn. I don't know anyone who pays nowadays since the internet has so much for free! Sure, its repetitive, but it's free!

I think the "not my job" attitude in any business environment is pretty much a job-killer.

You'd think so... But the RNs I work with get away with saying it with alarming frequency.

Well, I know that NOW :) But then I was nineteen. Also autistic.

You could have stopped at 19. I mean, who has a clue on work ethic at 19?

One would hope that when a 19-year-old is offered $60k/yr, they would GET a clue. Shit, I have a degree now, and make less than I did back then.

In my own defense, though, the laptop in question was the guy's personal computer, and it was a totally non-work-related thing he was asking for. Ahem.
