Sysadmins labor in obscurity so that you can do your job without interruption. The modern world we live in is dependent on a staggering array of vastly complex systems. And all of it is regulated, monitored, run, enhanced by and layered on top of a network of computers. Sysadmins are the secret incanters that keep those arcane systems running. They're the technomancers that understand all the hidden rules, esoteric relationships and subtle architecture of the nervous system of modernity.
Little respect is paid to these people, who are dismissively referred to as nerds or geeks, or what-have-you. But the truth is they're maker, minder, and mender of all the systems that make your life comfortable, easy and entertaining.
Take a second to show your appreciation, yeah? I got the guys on my team this cake. Because everyone loves cake! Even getting the lady at the market to put a command line command in icing seemed bizarre and inexplicable to her, so divorced are we from the nuts and bolts of our world. At least a few of us will get cake today, though!
