Geminid Meteor Shower

I was camping with nerds last night in Leo Carillo State Beach's campground. It was the day after the peak of the Geminid meteor showers. The night was cold by local standards (38f) and very, very clear. The moon was nearly full - the night before it had been at it's perigee, and the brightest since 1993.

There are meteor showers every year on my birthday, so I've seen a lot of them. But this was the most active meteor shower I'd ever seen - throughout the night I saw at least a dozen shooting stars, and one or two as bright and slow as flares. Purple, yellow, red.

I've never seen so many falling stars.
