Steampunk Halloween

Which is I suppose All Saints Day or the Day of the Dead (for non-freaks, and I suppose also freaks.)

We spent most of the day completing our costumes - Steampunk Sky-pirates. We used golf umbrellas to create extendable wings for each of us, and added all the usual steampunk accoutrement with a dash of the punk - utilikilts. pyr8queen also steampunkified the night vision goggles I gave her for her birthday, painting them bronze and dirty steel and leather.

We may as well not have worn anything else, as that was all anyone pretty much noticed - so I give you here a picture of the only thing about our costumes that seemed particularly relevant. Never the less, many people at both parties we attended (both excellent) asked us what we were, and "What are you from?" The idea that there was no particular movie or book from which we'd derived our idea seemed astonishing and perhaps impossible to believe.

Never the less, at some point I was fed six pomegranate seeds in celebration of the myth of Persephone by a famous model dressed as Demeter, dandled my feet in a hot tub full of body parts with a conspiracy theorist and a game designer, and absolutely astonished a few people with elvish pickup lines. No, they've never worked. Yes, that's the geekiest thing you've heard this week.

Above all, I got to play dress-up with pyr8queen who is quite a bit more fetching than the character under her goggles in this picture. Particularly with wings. We stayed out quite late, and enjoyed torturing our cats by dressing them up, as well.

All the pictures we took were at night, and the wings are black and didn't show up very well.

So does that mean that for 6 months out of the year you have to be whisked away to stay with a famous model?
