Giant Gouda David

Since watching the (dreadful)  movie "Across the Universe" last week, I've had this song, or at least part of it, stuck in my head. I swear there's a part where it sounds like Lennon is singing "Giant gouda David!". I can't decide if he is excited to point out the giant gouda to me, or if he's accusing me of being giant gouda - or if just perhaps there are giant gouda versions of me, floating through space or something.

I link here to the Rufus Wainwright version of the song, because it sounds even MORE like Giant gouda David. Enjoy your music Monday.

Giant gouda David!

It was dreadful? Really? The trailer was enough to catch my interest, but I never got around to seeing it.

I did just watch "Once" last week, and thought it was amazing. Far exceeded my expectations for a movie where the actors sing. I think you'd like it (if you haven't seen it already).

I haven't, but I"ll check it out. "Across the Universe" was basically one long, big-budget music video for Beatles covers. Some of the covers were good, but about half of them were really awful.

The "plot" was the barest and most inconsistent of contrivances to stitch together the songs - and was particularly absurd in that it took place in America. WTF? They couldn't make it in England?

All Beatles covers? I wonder how much cash Michael Jackson made off that movie....

Though, am I mistaken in thinking "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is a post-beatles McCartney song?

Wikipedia says it was originally on the White album.

Well, Wikipedia is frequently wrong about a lot of things!

I'm guessing something like Beatles discography is pretty safe.

It's kinda like when David Byrne is suddenly singing in French, and everyone goes, "Wait, what?"

is "across the universe" that hippy-trippy movie that has all the psychedelic arty scenes? i was curious about that. still may watch it just for that stuff, as that at least looks fun.

i'm trying to imagine you as a giant gouda, and failing. perhaps he was pointing you to the ode to the mammoth cheese weighing over 7,000 pounds.

Yeah, that's the one. It is visually interesting, and the main character has an amazing singing voice - but unfortunately he doesn't get to sing as often as you might wish. I dunno, it's pretty hard to fuck up a two hour Beatles music video, but basically they did.

although IIRC, the first line of that poem should be "We have seen thee, Queen of Cheese," rather than "the Queen of Cheese."

I could've told you it would suck.
A) It's a musical
B) It's the Beatles

A truly horrific combo. :P

That, I will have you know, is one of my favorite songs. Also, don't you meditate enough to recognize an "Om" when you hear it?

The movie... Meh. Some of it is gorgeous to look at, some of it is moving and some of it is just plain boring.
