Camping Plans

So, my clever plan to go camping has been foiled by the fact that there are no open camping slots in any of the state parks in the LA area. Well, perhaps there are, but one has to reserve them more than two days in advance, which I have failed to do.

Therefore, gentle readers, I ask for your help. Do any of you know of an area where I can go and spend the night somewhere in the woods, or on the beach - and be untroubled by technology? I'm figuring on going out tonight, and returning tomorrow night. Your help is much appreciated.

Here you go man - a bunch of first come first served, with some hike in onlys.

Oh, and the next time you want to do this, I highly recommend:

(As you can tell, I don't really like to camp with lots of people around.)

Unfortunately, Hike-in only is not do-able, as I don't actually have a tent, anymore. I gave it to two Hobbits on a quest, two years ago on my birthday. (seriously)

Are any of those sights close to LA at all?

Not terribly helpful
Wherever the yuppie hikers are being eaten by mountain lions or there's a rare toad being preserved, I figure that's a good spot. ; )

Big 5 has a pretty good tent on sale for $20 right now. I know this because I just bought one for the husband and #1 child for their "camping" trip to Le Country Club tonight.

No, I am not kidding. They are going to paddle and fish in Toluca Lake, make crafts, sleep in tents on the golf course and have Belgian waffles in the clubhouse in the morning. All in the shadow of Universal Studios.

Are they allowed to do that?

It's a special annual event that my In Laws signed them up for. A father/daughter campout. But it would be MUCH more fun if they were just sneaking in!

Speaking of that sort of thing- have you ever hiked to the back fence of the Greek Theater for a concert?

I haven't, though my cousin told me about it. I keep meaning to. But then, I'm no longer young and broke, so I suppose I could just buy a ticket, you know?

What happened to your sense of adventure???
Aug. 11th, 2006 10:17 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that's not so much an adventure, in my book - since broke hipsters do it all the time.
Aug. 11th, 2006 10:22 pm (UTC)
Yeah, well... Haven;t done it myself in quite a while. But when something is sold out- well there you go.

BTW- did you see this?

It's first come/first serve. Lake Cachuma is where I am thinking to take Zollo for birdwatching. Apparently, some rare raptors can be seen arouns there.

too far, can't make it before sundown.
It's looking pretty grim.

You have to plan ahead?

*I* am thinking of going to the Drive In movies tonight to see Lady in the Water, since it will just be Arthur and me.
