The trail is basically steep ascent and descent all the way, with only a few spots to catch your breath and take pictures of the vista. From the highest point of elevation of the hills that line the seaside, you can turn around and see all of Los Angeles in one direction, the vasty Pacific in another, and the Pacific Coast Highway stretching up the coast in the other.
It was a beautiful but difficult hike - I need to challenge myself outdoors like this a lot more. Afterwards I had sushi with my friend Jenn (who also went on the hike) at a place where you just sit there, and little boats go by in a trough of water, bearing cargoes of sushi. At any moment, you can become piratical and plunder the little boats, making off with the delicious booty. That and a gigantic Asahi were just what was in need after an arduous trek.
