So, excited to hear that the Decemberists were playing in LA this month, I decided to get tickets. I was doubly excited when I saw that the Henry Ford Theatre only wanted $18.00 for General Admission tickets. Eighteen bucks to the see the Decemberists? You bet!

I even figure I'll want to bring someone, so I get an extra ticket. $36.00 - that's cheaper than dinner for two someplace swanky. But then... the service charges! $2.00 each ticket for "Total Building Facility Charges". Another $7.35 for a "convenience charge" - times two for both tickets. What the hell is a convenience charge, I ask you? I think that's a "because we want your money, sucka" charge, not a convenience charge. I don't believe I was given anything particularly more or less convenient for that $14.70... so why did I pay for it?

But that's not all! There's an "order processing charge". Shouldn't have been covered under "convenience" -don'tcha think? And then there's a "ticketfast delivery" charge - which is $2.50 so they can email me the tickets, which I will print out myself. They're charging me for email, and they're charging more than regular ol' postage would cost anyway! Can you imagine if you had to pay $2.50 for every email you sent?

So, at the end of the damage, my $36 tickets actually cost me almost $62. BASTARDS!

I was just having this very same conversation an hour ago

NIN: $39.50 plus 7.60 but I went to the ticketmaster place so all I really need to add in addition is the gas money.. but I had to make 2 trips cause they were closed the first time.

Green Day: $45 plus 7.25 that might equal $52.25 for my ONE Gen Admission ticket.. but I got it for $61 cause I won it on ebay.. I should get a "I had to worry for 10 days that I was getting ripped off" refund fee tho

Interpol: the tickets are advertised at $55. that's the most so far. don't know what the extras would be for that.. but I will have to add a train ticket to Penn Station NYC ($15.25 round trip last I heard) plus the $3 parking fee, then another ticket from Penn station to somewhere in Staten Island (don't know if it is a direct route or not) possibly some cab fare.. food, drink etc.. I'm looking at probably an easy $200 and that's just for me alone. good thing I'm not taking a date.

And to think... Interpol isn't even a big band.. but it's some kind of festival or something.. like a bunch of bands are playing that day.

I feel your pain my friend.. enjoy your show!

Ticketmaster disgusts me. I don't remember the Decemberists using them prior to this tour - I'm almost positive they used another smaller competitor, but I could be halucinating. Tickets for the Philly show at the Electric Factory were billed at $15 each, but with all the "convenience" charges they wound up being over $20 each. I cannot believe they have the audacity to charge $2.50 for emailing tickets that I would use my printer, my ink, my paper to print out. Bastards!

At any rate, the Decemberists put on a helluva show. You'll have a great time.

Ever seen a show at the Ford? It's pretty amazing - and you can bring a picnic dinner & your own wine. Have fun!

oh yeah here's an update for ya

I just got my ticket from ticketmaster online.. for the Interpol show in Staten Island... some festival I guess, like 4 or 5 bands playing.. not that I'm interested in any of them besides Interpol..

my ONE ticket, for me.. and I had them send it in the mail for free, so no extra shipping charge there..

my Total Charge: $68.95

oh my god, I am truely insane! it better be a good show!

now, take the train or drive? either way, it will be pricey
