Victory in PA

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but Pennsylvania is a decisive win for Kerry. I'm equally excited by the incredibly close contest between Joe Hoeffel and incumbent Senator Arlen Specter. Congressman Hoeffel (and perhaps now Senator Hoeffel) came around to my grandparent's house in King of Prussia when I was a kid. I remember it vividly, and remember being impressed that a politician was knocking on our door, and spending time in our living room talking to us about his platform. Honestly, I didn't think he stood a chance against such a well-known guy as Specter -- what a great showing for him!

Kerry has 56% of the vote so far - which is pretty close to the 58% number we were quoted around suppertime. Joe Hoeffel is trailing Specter by 1% at this point ... well within the margin of error. Paul Skoles has definitely lost to the incumbent, Republican Weldon. This is not a surprise, Dr. Skoles was a late-in-the-race replacement for another candidate who was shipped off to Afghanistan.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a win in Florida or Ohio - though Florida is looking pretty grim right now. I suppose when I wake up tomorrow, I'll have a pretty good idea what kind of country I'll be living in for the next four years. I'm surprised it's as down to the wire as it is - I guess living in Pennsylvania, I had a feeling it was going to be a surprise landslide. And sure enough - it was. HERE. But not around the country.

I'm counting on Kerry to win - mostly because I intend to write to him to ask if he'll name me Ambassador to Middle Earth. (Though I'd settle for just Gondor, or even Rivendell.)
