Quotidian Loveliness

I was prepared to do Henry V's Crispin Crispian's Day speech, and sing "Daisy on my toe" by the Smothers Brothers. That, and my stellar resume, I felt sure would do the trick.
In reality, they glanced at me, had me sing Happy Birthday, and told me to sit down, rehearsals were starting in a few minutes. So that's me in "Scarlet Pimpernel" - unnamed ensemble member, of course. I can't read music so the musical rehearsal was something of a challenge, and I haven't sung in public since High School (unless jody calls in the Army count) ...but hey, I get to wear cool costumes and fence on stage!

Performances are in early April. If you're not there, I will kill your pets.

Ok, it's Valentine's Day, and it's 10:30, and I'm home alone posting on the internet. Tradition dictates that I should either be casting bitter recriminations about the hollowness of a manufactured romantic event - or weeping over love's lost and Valentine's Day past in more salubrious company.

But you know what? It's okay. A lot of my friends are happy with someone right now, and that's fantastic. This particular night might not be - as one would certainly prefer - a night of lovemaking with all the vigor and urgency of say... fleeing a bear. And sure, today was not the greatest day to find out about the ex and her new guy, who seems like a tool and nowhere near as charming as me. But barring that, life is still pretty damn good.

The neighbors have a fire going, and the smell of the smoke is very homey and pleasant. The sky is incredibly clear, and the surf so high I can hear it crashing from here. Rehearsal was a lot of fun, and I even have a speaking (and named!) role now. Work continues to be great. My sisters are healthy.

I'll take it, for sure - and I'm especially glad for all of you that *aren't* reading this because you're out gettin' a little somethin' somethin'. Knock a slice off for me, compadres!
