One of my coworkers is deaf. It's hard to even tell, at first - he just seems shy but amiable. He always smiles and sometimes giggles indecorously at the oddest things. But when he speaks, you can tell.
Last month he got a Cochlear implant, making him the first cyborg I know, for actual real. They finally turned the implant on, and now he has a wire running from his hearing aid to a transduction plate on his head. He's only had it "on" for a few days, and is still getting used to it.
