This just in: you're a good dog!

Blink is maturing. When we got him he tended to run off whenever he could. He wouldn't come when called, and he liked to chase cats. He was also kind of aloof - he didn't much like to be petted, and he wasn't too clear on the whole "fetch" thing.

Now, he's basically the greatest dog in the world. He comes when he's called, even when he knows he's in trouble. He does try and sniff cats, but he's learned to leave them alone, basically. He loves him some fetch- it's just adorable when I'm sitting somewhere and he bounds up and drops a ball at my feet.

Mostly though, he's gotten pretty affectionate. He'll sit with me on the couch and put his head on my lap and fall asleep. He'll jump on the bed at night and curl next to me until I kick him off, and then again in the morning when Herself leaves. If I'm watching tv on the couch, he'll walk over and stand next to me, and duck his head under my hand in a fairly unambiguous "pet me" signal.

He still jumps up on people when they come in the door, but I have confidence he'll learn not to do that, too. Man did we get lucky with the dog. He's just the best. I'd rather give up coffee than Blink.

I'm so glad he's worked out. He sounds like a great dog, and you guys are clearly doing everything right, so go you! Give him some pets from me. :) It's amazing what love and affection and the right amount of discipline and structure will do for an animal.
