Lame

Everyone has gone to facebook, I suppose. The only posts I see regularly are from Warren Ellis. This is lame.

Facebook is too ephemeral, and of course, has the worst possible policies towards user privacy - something LJ figured out ages ago. By ephemeral, I mean - people's posts are gone in a few seconds, because they're buried under the dross of farmville, which-pop-culture-numbskull-am-i, mafia wars and other pointless drivel.

I miss reading what my friends are up to, working on, and thinking in a substantive way. We're left with "I just had a ham sandwich!" or "Off to [some show I've never heard of]" and drunken pub pictures.

Lame.

I use facebook for different things than i do LJ.. but I am horrid about posting on both.

You know you can hide or black apps on facebook so you never see them?

Yeah; LJ has definitely quieted down in the last 5 years. I still refuse to go on Facebook... gotta have vague standards.

Living with my parents, I'm only able to cook when they're out of town. I've cooked maybe one day in the last two or three months!

I have nothing substantive to say lately but I read LJ every day. I have come close to canceling my FB account many times but need to keep it because my graduate program makes all their major announcements via FB. =/

we'll be here
on LJ for a long time to come. For some of the same reasons you stay here. I'm all for starting a campaign of nudging people who have LJ accounts to come back and post once and a while, read wht us old fogies are up to, fogie being short hand for people who like to write in sentences and paragraphs about more than which celb is hot or how yummy their cheese pizza is in 140 characters or less.

Of course, among many reasons I hate FB and have no intention of joining it is that I dont' want the people who I attended jr high and high school to 'find' me. I hated most of those years, and didn't like the people I went to school with back then - not just the bullies for whome I was a prime target - but the people who stood by and cheered as it happened. There will be no pretense that I'm delighted that Cathy M* is now a grandmother, and that all the horrid things she did to me are waters that flowed over the dam decades ago. My only question to her would be: 'tell me, did you bully and beat your own kids and grandkids as you did to me and others?'

I love the the way you write Aggie, you've done some wonderful work talking about your life and thoughts. Don't give it up, stay here with me and George and a handful of others who huddle around the small fire of coherent, sustained thought.

why, thank you
my apologies for the typos and poor construction; the days are long here for the production, and we're doing our best to see as much as we can, meet as many people as possible, and soak in as many experiences as we can during this incredible adventure. I do believe in second-drafts and spell checking, but at least most times my first draft is understandable. I'm thankful I learned that drinking while posting on the internets is a very stupid and dangerous thing to do occurred back when we were using a 300 baud modem, and there were only a handful of list-serves and primitive chalk-and-slate boards

If "Game of Thrones" does not catch on and become a hit in HBO's eyes, it won't be for a lack of effort, skill, expertise, talent and knowledge by all people in the production. they are doing remarkable work, and it's been so much fun to be here.

Keep on writing coherent sentences my my friends, we may be the last of a dying breed, but we'll go with our 'Elements of Style' and dictionaries clutched in our withered and weathered hands.

Re: we'll be here
Parris I laughed out loud at this superb rant! I know that wasn't what you were shooting for, but I could hear the sarcasm across the wires, all the way from Ireland!

I'm not in the least bit tempted to switch to facebook or anything. Not that I don't use FB, it's just that I miss how I used to be able to keep up with friends, because Livejournal is a place where you talk about more than just your ham sandwich...or at least you maybe also describe the tomato soup and rainy day and memories of youth along with it. Because you have the space to do it. And also, it won't be buried under 18 requests for a home for a lonely sheep.

I'm still here, just lazy :p

I don't have much substantive to say, but if I do I usually say it over here, and let facebook be spammed with LJ updates, ha! I also read LJ all the time still and appreciate the updates I do see. Especially ones with dogs :3

What can I say? I've been really, really busy and frankly, none of the busy-ness has been very interesting.

Ooh! But I made potato chips from scratch this afternoon for my kids to have after school!

Oh- I also don't have a lot to say over on Facebook, either. People from work read that! I only post personal things on LJ, where my flist is all exclusive.

I read LJ every day.

I'll start posting again once I have teh internets at the house (which is looking like February when we get the condo) but it's just too much of a PITA to post via iPhone, and the wifi time I have on my lappy is usually absorbed by submitting VO auditions.

But I haven't jumped ship quite yet. FB can suckit. I keep it around to x-post tweets and keep track of
embarrassing tagged photos.

I read it everyday, I just don't think there is much interesting about me that people would want to read. It's easier to post that I'm heading into work than to post what happened all day.

But, I love reading what you've been up to and what's been going on with you.

You got a point there. I should probably do a big end of year thing.
